31+ Days & Reasons to Appreciate Midlife
Midlife is a pivotal time in a woman’s life. It is a time for reflection, transition and, for some, reinvention. But for many women, midlife can trigger depression, boredom, unease and a loss of self. Let’s call it crisis, shall we?
How prevalent is the belief that “midlife” and “crisis” are synonymous? Go to Google, Bing, or Yahoo Search, type in “midlife” and see what you get. Even the top three search engines can’t seem to separate midlife from crisis.
Hmmmm . . . I wonder why?
I’m no expert, but I believe society’s view of midlife perpetuates the myth that it is bound to be fraught with turmoil, unhappiness and self-doubt . . . throughout the entirety of midlife. Not true.
Yes, we may struggle with the thought of our own mortality, we may become disillusioned with our life, or we may begin to seek out adventures, possessions or experiences that may appear out of sync with the person that we are, but this doesn’t necessarily have to equate to ‘crisis.’
Our time as midlife women doesn’t have to be steeped in the bowels of negativity.
Midlife-A-Go-Go is all about celebrating this wonderful time in our lives and, hopefully, existing in the absence of crisis. Does this mean we tamp down our emotions and ignore the challenges that may befall us?
No.
Dealing with the challenges as they are presented is a necessary component of achieving satisfaction in life. This doesn’t mean we have to deny our feelings; it means we deal with the negative and embrace the positive.
The phrase ‘think positive’ is more than a string of buzzwords. It can be a valuable affirmation tool that helps usher you into the thick of midlife. Hang onto the negative aspects of midlife if you wish, but in the midst of that, don’t forget to acknowledge the positive things that midlife offers us.
