#60. You Embrace Your Life Story In Its Entirety, Not Just The Good Parts

combating midlife negativity

Your life is made up of many moving parts, and they all work together in concert to form your past, present and future. Sometimes things go well, and other times your life is so askew, you’re not sure if you’re really existing in the here and now or if it’s one big, horrible nightmare from which you can’t awaken.

But here’s the thing about you, midlife woman: You embrace every part of your life because you know that every adventure, every mishap, every success and every failure has brought you to the point where you are now. It’s made you the woman that you’ve become.

That’s worth embracing. Not just parts of it . . . all of it.

And you do.

Why?

You know who you are, you accept your fullness of life and, deep down, you know that your story is uniquely you.

You . . . embraceable you.

Thank you for affirming this for me. My life fell apart when I hit midlife and my husband, actor Tom O’Rourke, who’d been depressed all his life, passed away. I was alone with a modest income and a young man who quit college in despair. Then it got worse than I ever imagined. I found out that my husband had cheated on me for 35 years of our supposedly happy marriage. He was depressed because he was stuck with me. But I owned it. That was my life and I struggled to understand why he would pretend to be happily married and yet cheat. I wrote a book called BEDEVILED https://amzn.to/2JYoV2m

Marcy, I applaud your courage, tenacity and strength to embrace that part of your life and move past it. It’s difficult to take hold and ownership of the things in our lives that aren’t shiny and nice. Good for you! ((Hugs!))
