Have you come into your own as a midlife woman? Do you embrace the aging woman that you have become (even while desiring to change certain aspects of yourself) or are you on a continual mission to ‘keep up with the younger Joneses?’ Have you stepped into your sexuality and claimed it?
On this episode, I’m chatting with author, sex educator, speaker and sexual health writer, Walker Thornton. In this first of two episodes, we candidly discuss our sexuality as midlife women, feeling invisible, the way men view us and more. Tune in to this invigorating conversation as we touch on embracing — our bodies, our graying hair, ourselves. It isn’t about man-bashing . . . far from it. It’s about challenging who society says we’re supposed to be, how we’re supposed to behave and how we’re supposed to look as midlife women.
[02.24] Walker discusses her book, “Inviting Desire, A Guide for Women Who Want to Enhance Their Sex Life” [02:57] Walker wanted to provide women with ideas to figure out what their true desires are and how you can awaken your pleasures. [03:43] Do we, as women, own our sexuality? [09:38] The male gaze – how men view women differently as we get older. [12:30] We want to feel desired, but . . . [14:26] How do we juggle wanting to remain youthful with embracing the woman that we are in an authentic way? [16:17] Owning our aging. [17:16] Taking a stand – remove the labels of who we are supposed to be as midlife women. [22:00] Our fears hold us back. [22:40] The myth that we need a man to do things. [24:57] Give ourselves permission to do what we want and our own validation. [26:11] Women need to share experiences to inspire and motivate other women.
