#18. Feeling Sexier Than Ever

combating midlife negativity

You admire yourself in a full-length mirror. You turn to the left, smile ever so slightly and give yourself a nod of approval, then you swivel to the right. Rinse and repeat. You like what you see.

You’re not the same woman you were back in your 20s and 30s. Perhaps, like me, you aren’t even the same woman that you were when you were in your 40s. You’re okay with that. You have evolved. Your body has changed. You’re finally comfortable in the skin you’re in. You don’t base the woman that you are now on the who or what society says you’re supposed to be.

You’re too busy doing you, too busy being you.

And that you is feelin’ some kinda sexy right about now. True, you may have bumps, bulges, dimples and wrinkles . . . still, you’re okay with that.

You feel sexy. You embrace that sensual, loving part of yourself . . . as a woman . . . as a sexy woman.

I’m 54 as well, Jennifer. I can relate to your struggle; however, I realize that we as women can be our own worst critic. I try not to worry too much about this bump here, that bulge there — my husband helps to reinforce in me that I’m no schlep. I don’t strive to be a model; I strive to be and remain myself. Years ago, I chased the perfect body, then I realized I had to change my thinking to “I have the body that’s perfect for me.” So give yourself a hug, embrace the body that you have and try not to be your harshest critic. So keep on workin’ that hulahoop and love all that is you! 🙂
