Today, I tell myself that I will strive to do better . . . to be better . . . to think clearer . . . to make better decisions. You see, there’s this phenomenal woman who is doing wonderful things in her life. She wasn’t always this way, but now she’s a woman on fire.
I see the way she moves about. She’s comfortable in her skin, she commands her space in the world, and when she wants a seat at the table, she pulls out the chair and takes it.
I hold no shame in admitting that, I want to be like her — this phenomenal woman — only better. Yes, I compete with her, because running a race with her in it makes me push myself harder.
This phenomenal woman is ME . . . and I’m the only one I need to be in competition with.

A quote I’ve been trying to repeat to myself a lot lately has been “Comparison steals your joy.” It’s really so true that we all have to only compete with ourselves. Thanks for the reminder, Valerie.

So true, Joy. We lose out when we compare ourselves to others.
